2-4-15 Ephesians 2:8-10

Ephesians 2:8-10

There are few believers who do not accurately have the passage in Ephesians 2:8-9 committed to memory. It reads,  "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

These 2 verses give a clear picture of the "HOW" of salvation:

    - by grace
    - through faith
    - not of ourselves
    - gift of God
    - prevents boasting

However, often, verse 10 is not as familiar, but it is so important if we are to walk worthy of our calling.  Verses 8, 9 and 10 are all three linked together in thought. While verses 8 and 9 give us the "HOW" of salvation, verse 10 gives us the "WHY" of salvation.  It reads: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them".

We can clearly see that the free gift of salvation tho those who believe is purposeful:

    - we are the workmanship of God
    - created in Christ Jesus
    - for the purpose of good works (living biblically, godly, like Christ )
    - that purpose having already been set by God (before the foundation of the world

May God help us to be grateful for salvation, and responsively live out outlives in conformity to Christ in our thoughts, actions and words.
