All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
This passage of Scripture has been such a blessing, as well as an encouragement to my heart. The basis of all our thinking, decision- making, evaluation and conflict resolution is the eternal, inerrant, infallible Word of God.
Foundationally, our confidence is centered in the fact that every word is given by the very breath of the very God. 2 Peter 1:21b teaches us that "holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." It is with that underlying truth that we demonstrate such unquestionable confidence in the words given by our God.
Those specific words give us four clear steps of the profit of God's Word.
Firstly, they define the heart, mind, will and purpose of God.
Secondly, in that light, sinful thoughts and actions stand out clearly in abject opposition to the singular goal of Christlikeness which God is accomplishing in all things, according to Romans 8:28-29.
Thirdly, as we understanding what is God's goal, and see how far short of His glory we so often fall, how blessed to realize He describes the way back via the corrective vehicle of repentance. How he loves to forgive and cleanse when His blood-bought children confess and forsake all that displeases Him. 1 John 1:9 makes that truth abundantly clear.
Lastly, the follow-through of restructure is critical to the on-going growth toward spiritual maturity. Verse 17 describes the significant stability level of the believer who has been the recipient of the profit of God's Word, applied practically to his or her own life.
