Romans 8:28-29 are inextricably connected in that verse 28 explains the divine Truth that God is working all things together toward a good end, verse 29 demonstrates the substance of that good end, that of conformity to Christ.
The following passage in Philippians 2:5-8 has been an incredible blessing in my personal spiritual life in this regard. It gives real clarity and understanding to what a life that is being progressively conformed to Christ would look like.
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
We are instructed to let the mind of Christ be our standard and guide as we emulate the life characteristics seen in Him. The life characteristics of submission to God and service to men are clear demonstrations of how having His mind will be practically demonstrated our lives. It was Jesus, Himself, Who declared in Matthew 22 that the two great commandments, upon which hung all the law and prophets, were to love God and our neighbor. Additionally, the life quality of sacrificial humility is clear to us.
Having looked carefully at that passage, if we are to have the mind of Christ, we should be living illustrations of both sacrificial submission to God in obedience and sacrificial service to others I ministry.
May God help us to please God and profit others today, for His glory.
